If you can only attend one medical research conference, make sure it’s Science on the Swan 2017: One Health.
Seventy five percent of newly emerging diseases in the last 30 years are the result of zoonotic (human – nonhuman) transmission. Population growth, climate change, lifestyle shifts and rapid transportation are profoundly affecting global disease profiles and acquisition risk. “One Health” is an integrated effort of multiple disciplines to understand how these factors interact to increase the risk of emergent diseases that affect us all on a global scale.
One Health seeks root cause understanding and effective solutions to emergent infectious and acquired diseases through, fundamental stem cell and regenerative medical science, public health and environmental remedies, working synergistically to advance the health of all species and the varied places in which they live.
The conference and associated workshops provide an opportunity to interact with global research leaders in this important 21st century field. The program includes internationally recognised speakers and many of Australia’s top One Health researchers working in partnership with industry to deliver effective health outcomes for our planet.
Topics covered include:
There will be plenary, symposia and community interest sessions devoted to these streams at Science on the Swan 2017, as well as pre and post conference workshops.
Science on the Swan is initiated and run as part of the Western Australian Health Translation Network by all five of WA’s universities: The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University and the University of Notre Dame together with The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, the Telethon Kids Institute, the key teaching and research hospitals and the WA Government through the Department of Health and the Office of Science.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Science on the Swan Conference 2017 in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Satellite Meeting - 5th International Conference on Biophotonics
Biophotonics is the science and applications of light in medicine and biology. The International Conference on Biophotonics has a tradition of bringing together opinion leaders in the field, to consider where the field is going, and what opportunities there are to work together. Key in this goal is end users of biophotonics technologies, and this year co-location and running back-to-back with Science on the Swan presents an exceptional opportunity to engage with medical researchers and translators.
